Million Dollar Spaghetti

This recipe came from a really good friend (thanks, Sarah P!), and it has been a keeper in our house ever since I first made it. It easily feeds a family for two meals, or feeds a healthy crowd. I'm not really sure what makes it so special, but I think it may be the creamy, cheesy layer in between the meat sauce. Some may say it kind of looks like lasagna, only with spaghetti noodles, but I disagree.....there is a different taste about it. A good one!

Million Dollar Spaghetti

1 lb. spaghetti noodles
1 lb. ground beef
1 jar spaghetti sauce
1/4 c. sour cream (I used light)
1/3 c. chopped onion
3 T. unsalted butter, melted
8 oz. block of cream cheese (I used light)
8 oz. cottage cheese
1 t. garlic salt

Cook spaghetti, drain and set aside. Saute ground beef and onion until brown, drain and add spaghetti sauce, set aside. Combine cottage cheese, cream cheese, sour cream, and garlic salt. In a 9x13 greased pan, spread 1/2 of the spaghetti noodles, cover with cheese mixture, and add reminder of spaghetti. Pour melted butter over spaghetti, and then spread the meat mixture on top. Chill (can be refrigerated overnight), and remove from fridge 20 min. before baking. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.

Doesn't it look yummy?

On a side note, my husband has the day off for Martin Luther King Day, so we'll be spending some time at home this morning, then heading out later to visit great-grandma and have an early dinner at the Olive Garden with his sister and brother-in-law. I know.....not authentic Italian....but I still find it REALLY good. Does anyone else like OG? Or are you an OG hater?

  4. I've tried a few baked spaghettis and not been overly pleased with any of them - can't wait to give this one a try. The cheesy layer sounds just right.

I've never been to the Olive Garden but see their commercials all the time. I assumed it was terrible, so I'm glad to hear otherwise!

  5. That looks gooood. My mom makes a similar spaghetti casserole with pepperoni. I love OG! Eggplant parm and about thirteen breadsticks.
