Grandma's Slow Cooker Chicken Noodle Soup

Have a cold?  Craving a warm bowl of comfort food?
Then this Slow Cooker Chicken Noodle Soup is for you!

Let me start off by saying my grandmother has no affiliation with this soup.  It just sounds better saying Grandma's Chicken Noodle Soup.  Much cozier, don't you think?

I made a big batch of this a week ago when the whole house was sneezing, coughing and catching snot left and right.  Of course the hot soup made my nose run more, but it was worth it.  Even better, I baked up some of my No-Knead Artisan Bread to go along side for dunking purposes.

If you've been a reader for awhile you'll know I'm a lover of any and all things that cook in the slow cooker and require little work.  I'm happy to say this dish is one of them!  Low and slow.

Grandma's Chicken Noodle Soup

1 small onion, diced
2 carrots, diced
2 stalks celery, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
8 c. chicken stock
1 c. water
1 t. lemon pepper seasoning
1 t. dill
1 t. salt
1 t. parsley
1/2 lb. dry egg noodles
4 c. shredded chicken

1.  Place all ingredients in a large slow cooker {minus the noodles} on low.
2.  Cook for at least 6 hours, or all day if at work.  Stir in the uncooked noodles 30-45 minutes before serving.  Soup is ready when noodles are tender.
3.  Serve warm.

Pretty heavenly looking, right?

This makes a hearty batch and easily feeds a crowd of hungry teenagers or if you are like us two dinners in a row.  One night I serve it with the homemade bread I talked about earlier and the next night I serve it with ooey, gooey grilled cheese sandwiches.

Because I've never found a person who can resist a grilled cheese sandwich!

And since I have soup on the brain and it's winter, here are a few of our many favorites.  Do me a favor and stick one on your meal plan each week!

Lasagna Soup
Creamy Turkey and Wild Rice Soup
Spicy Taco Soup
Aloha Chili
Cheesy Corn, Bacon and Potato Chowder
Buffalo Chicken Soup

  1. Not doing much shopping this year. Keeping it pretty simple a few basics for everyone and one special gift. I've got 2 blankets to make and then I'm pretty much done. Poor Jacob has asked for a couple of years now for a fleece blanket so, I'm getting my butt in gear and making him one for Christmas. Hope you guys stay warm but sure do hope you get a little snow for Christmas it's the one thing I miss no cold weather and never any snow at the holidays.

  2. Thanks for sharing! I made the mistake of putting my noodles in at the beginning - which means they blow up by the end : )

My shopping isn't done, but I am hoping to finish up this weekend. Also waiting for a few things to arrive in the mail, and crossing my fingers that they get here in time.

  4. I like the lemon pepper and dill addition, I'll have to try adding that to mine. We're hoping to finish our shopping tomorrow night. As far as your next cookbook, definitely simple dinners and I'm always looking for new appetizer recipes for when I have parties, potlucks, etc.

My baking is all done, but my shopping is almost done ... still a few things left to pick up. I love chicken soup so much - very comforting.
