Cheddar Herb Bread Mix {a great gift idea!}

You guys.  This weekend has been somewhat of a transition for us.  The husband moved to 2nd shift {working every stinking weekend, I might add}, so our schedule and routine is a bit off.  He is now home in the mornings with us, but leaves in the afternoon for work, leaving this mama with all the evening adventures.

Can I just say, I will always  give props to single mothers out there?

It can be rough.

But you know what I do, when it all seems a little bit overwhelming?  I cook.  Or bake.  Or do both.   This bread is super fabulous with soup or dunked in sauces {marinara!....see below}.  It does not require yeast and comes together in a flash.

Plus, did I mention, you can pre-measure the dry ingredients and give it as a gift?

Cheddar Herb Bread Mix
{Print this Recipe!}

Basic Mix:
2 c. flour
1 T. sugar
1 T. dried parsley
1 T. dried dill
1 T. dried rosemary
2 t. baking powder
1/2 t. salt

For the Basic Mix, combine all ingredients in one resealable plastic bag.  Seal bag and store for up to 1 month, or up to 3 months in the freezer.

To make Cheddar-Herb Bread: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease a loaf pan. Place Basic Mix in a bowl. With a pastry blender, cut in 1/4 cup butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in 4 ounces white cheddar cheese, shredded. In a bowl combine 3/4 cup milk and 1 egg, slightly beaten. Add to crumb mixture all at once. Stir quickly with a fork to moisten. Spread in prepared pan. Bake 45 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pan on wire rack for 10 minutes. Turn loaf out onto wire rack; cool completely.

If you saw my Facebook post yesterday {a big thanks for reaching 800+ fans!}, you saw I was making meatballs.  Homemade meatballs, homemade red sauce and bread....it doesn't get much better for a Saturday.

I'd be lying to say that I didn't take a slice of this featured bread and then proceed to hover over the crock pot giving the bread a dip.

You know what other recipes of mine this bread would be good with?  My Aloha Chili, my Ham & Cheddar Cauliflower Chowder, my Creamy Chicken & Wild Rice Soup, and even as a side to my Fresh Garden Lasagna.

And don't forget you can just make up the basic mix and store it for later.  Or give to a friend, daycare provider, boss or colleague.  I'm sure they will appreciate it!

    Cool! That would make a great gift. People are always afraid of making bread, but it really isn't difficult at all.

  5. After 5 years with my husband on a swing shift, I have a great appreciation of single mom's who do the night routine all the time. Sounds like you and I have some things in common...I bake too when I am stressed or irritated :-) I'm sure it will be an adjustment for your family, but one that be overcome. Thank you for stopping by my blog, so I could find yours.

  6. Herbs are what I love. I love taking care of my health with natural plants and products. I especially enjoy using quality cannabis buds https://westcoastsupply.cc/products/cannabis/budget-buds/ for stress relief.
