Healthier Protein Packed Dirt Cups

The protein gets amped up in this healthier version of a dirt cup.

Every kid in America has seen or had a “dirt cup” at some point in their life. Fun to make and fun for kids to eat! They often make the party circuits as Moms know they’ll be devoured. What kid doesn’t want to pretend they are eating dirt and worms?

When AE Dairy and I started brainstorming a recipe for their newly unveiled Hi Protein Chocolate Milk, a pudding cup of some sort was at the top of the list.

 

This new milk has a whooping 20 grams of protein in just one cup, 220 calories and 560 milligrams of calcium.

As a parent of athletes, I was immediately invested. I’ll often grab regular chocolate milk to have on hand as a recovery drink post workouts – but with AE Dairy’s new Hi Protein Chocolate Milk the protein jumps from 8 grams to 20 grams.

And can we talk about the taste? MY KIDS GUZZLED IT DOWN. I literally had to take the carton away from them. I was worried I wouldn’t have enough on hand to make this fun new recipe!

Now while chocolate milk is often fun by itself, we wanted a way to make it even more fun for kids.

These dirt cups taste decadent and creamy, but what the kids don’t know is that they are also protein packed! In addition to the Hi Protein Chocolate Milk, the pudding mixture also has plain Greek yogurt in the mix. The combo of the pudding, milk, yogurt and whipped topping makes for the fluffiest fluff you ever did have.

And of course – crushed chocolate cookies and gummy worms always help to make it fun – although you are welcome to leave those out if you want them a bit more adult friendly.

I did let my kids lick the mixing bowl, but then after assembling the cups and putting these in the fridge I had to also put a “do not eat” sign next to them.

Living in my house is hard at times.

These are the perfect Summertime treat for kids. They come together in just a few minutes and can keep in the fridge until they are ready for a sweet treat.
