It's Harvest season!
In the Midwest that also means snack time. We love to feed our farmers & our families during these busy months. This trail mix is so fun.
We've officially flipped the calendar to October. My favorite month of the year! I've loved it as long as I can remember, long before it became everyone else's favorite month (just putting that out there). I live for the cooler weather, football, apple pie, sweatshirts, soups multiple times a week and pumpkin everything.
I love it all!
Also, here in the Midwest it's harvest season. That means ALL of the corn and soybeans are getting picked. It takes a few weeks, sometimes up to a month before it's all out. My allergies HATE it (so much dust), but it always signals the sign that Fall has officially arrived (and winter is right around the corner).
With harvest season here I often get questions about meal and snack ideas to bring to the farmers in the fields. Now, let me just say I didn't grow up in a farming family, nor am I in one now, but I have a lot of friends who did or currently are - so I always enjoy giving them new ideas.
Generally, these meals and snacks need to be simple, yet delicious and transportable. Some hot meals I've recommended over the years...
And while hot meals are a must it's nice to give them snacks as well. Or in my case and this house, this is a great one to have around for the kids!
Mine are in multiple, busy activities and I've found dividing up this snack mix into baggies is great for car rides, after school or before school practices and so much more.
Now - this is the combination I came up with - mini pretzels, Cheez-its, honey roasted peanuts, Reese's pieces and two kinds of candy corn, both the regular and autumn mix. Feel free to add or delete any of these, but I've found it's a great mix of both sweet and salty.
This is a great one for the kids to put together! It's literally just dumping everything into a big bowl and tossing it all to combine. Go ahead and leave a big spoon or scoop right in the bowl so people can easily serve themselves.
Tag me on socials (@sweetsavoryeats) when you make this! I'd love to share your photos.
