Best Ever Pulled Pork Sandwiches

Grab your slow cooker and make the most delicious barbecue pork sandwiches!
Just a few simple ingredients make these tangy, sweet and mouthwatering.

Best Ever Pulled Pork Sandwiches

This is recipe currently sits at #4 in my all-time most popular recipes. I first introduced them in 2010, which if you're good at math - was well over 10 years ago!

Hmm....I wonder how many times I've served them to my family? Possibly a hundred times since then? Regardless, a LOT. You know why? Because they are good!

This recipe has been viewed hundreds of thousands of times and pinned well over 400K times. People love it! Most I believe because of it's simplicity. Busy Moms, this one is for you.

About once a year, possibly a bit less, we purchase half of a hog and fill our freezer. We get a combo of bacon, ground pork, sausage, pork chops and roasts. It's the most economical way to purchase meat. Plus, we buy from a local farmer and use a local butcher to do all the hard work for us.

Guess what?

I often use those pork roasts for these sandwiches - because they make the BEST pulled pork sandwiches. Roasts are meant to be cooked low and slow so they shred easily and just make the most tender sandwich.

Working Mamas, pay attention to this recipe. It requires very little work and feeds a crowd {often making enough for two meals - the leftovers are just as delicious}. It can cook slow all day long while at work and even keeps wonderfully on warm for a few hours once it's cooked.

Keep it on warm until ready to serve!

You will really only need three extra ingredients - a tasty barbecue seasoning or rub {we love John Henry's Pecan Rub}, some dark cola {Pepsi, Coke, even Dr. Pepper works fine} and your favorite barbecue sauce {we love Cookies barbecue sauce}.

So why am I re-sharing this recipe you ask?

Because as a food blogger, sometimes it is good for us to reintroduce those classic recipes back into our newer audience. Many of those that first saw them in 2010 are long gone and many of my new fans who surfaced in the past few years have never heard of them.

Get it?

Also, the photos HEAVILY NEEDED TO BE RETAKEN.

They were awful.

I cannot wait for you to try these!

Think of sitting in the South, outside with a drink in hand, at a picnic table with paper napkins and this sandwich is in front of you.

IT'S THE BEST.

Introduce your family to these and I promise they will become a part of your meal rotation.

Grab your slow cooker and make some of the best pulled pork around! Just a few ingredients to a saucy barbecue sandwich.

Ingredients

  • 3 lb pork roast
  • 1 cup dark cola
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1/4 cup barbecue rub (use your favorite - I use John Henry's Pecan Rub)

Instructions

  1. Preheat a large skillet with cooking spray to medium-high heat.
  2. Generously coat the pork roast with the barbecue rub. Place in the hot skillet and sear on all sides - just enough to give it a bit of color.
  3. Place the roast into the slow cooker. Combine the cola and barbecue sauce and pour it over the roast.
  4. Cook on LOW for 6-8 hours or until the pork shreds apart easily.
  5. Before serving drain off some of the liquid in the slow cooker and add additional barbecue sauce if you'd like the pork more saucy.
  6. Serve warm on buns, topped with dill pickles and a side of coleslaw.

Notes:

Feel free to use any barbecue rub of your choice, as well as your favorite barbecue sauce. Once this pork is finished it can stay on warm for several hours in the slow cooker until ready to serve.
