Bacon & Bleu Pork Burgers

Nothing beats Summer like a juicy, grilled burger.
This bacon and bleu cheese stuffed burger comes topped with a creamy Russian dressing and pretty much makes dreams come true.

This post is sponsored by Iowa Pork.

My birthday is in mid-August and I always request burgers for my dinner celebration. The family and I just got back from a short vacation and I ate burgers twice in four days. I have multiple burgers on my website and I will continue creating new varities until this blog dies.

That my friends should tell you HOW MUCH I LOVE A GOOD BURGER.

The iconic burger screams Americana and since we are smack dab in the middle of Summer, I had no choice but to feature this insanely good one in partnership with Iowa Pork.  I wanted to show off a great pork burger {if you haven't tried using ground pork in your grilled burger, please get on the train}.

This one fits the bill.

Bacon & Bleu Pork Burgers. #ad #iowapork #sweetsavoryeats

Pork is BIG in Iowa.

Huge.

We take a lot of pride in our pork production.  I've been cooking with it for years.  We love my Unstuffed Egg Roll Bowls, my classic Iowa Ham Balls, this comforting Lasagna Soup and my sweet and tangy BBQ pulled pork pizza

Don't believe me?  Take a look at these Iowa Pork Farmers.  You may be surprised just how much you have in common with these farmers here in Iowa. They care about the environment, they want their animals to be cared for properly and they really care about us, the consumer.

Bacon & Bleu Pork Burgers. #ad #iowapork #sweetsavoryeats

Now, I have always enjoyed a burger topped with bleu cheese.  In fact if it's on a restaurant menu, there is about a 90% chance I'll order it every stinking time.

Think you don't like bleu cheese?  Not sure? GIVE IT A WHIRL!

I promise the combination in this burger of caramelized, sweet onion, bleu cheese, bacon and a creamy Russian sauce comes together perfectly.  Even my husband who "kinda" likes bleu cheese loved these burgers and gobbled down two in about 15 minutes.

They are smokey and tangy and juicy and just well....amazing.

Bacon & Bleu Pork Burgers. #ad #iowapork #sweetsavoryeats

Ground pork generally has a pretty mild flavor, so I knew I wanted to jazz these up!  It also has many nutrients that are immune boosters - vitamin B6, zinc and selenium.

Iowa Pork has always been on my side, we've partnered together many times of the years.  They know I can come up with some yummy grub.

When they saw the idea for these Bacon & Bleu Pork Burgers - it was game on! We grilled them up on a Friday night after a long week and it was just the perfect ending.  We sat on our deck, enjoyed the weather, poured a cocktail and wiped the drool off our chins.

Bacon & Bleu Pork Burgers. #ad #iowapork #sweetsavoryeats

And we haven't even talked about bacon {another pork favorite} and my homemade Russian dressing {which I prefer to eat by the spoonful} or the caramelized onions sauted to their ultimate sweetness.

I've been known to cook up a pound of bacon at the beginning of the week and keep it in the fridge to use in various ways throughout the week - BLT's, in breakfast burritos, in wraps and FOR THESE BURGERS.

I had cooked up my bacon earlier in the day, so I simple cut each strip in half and crossed them on top of these patties.  They held that bleu cheese perfectly.

And that dressing?  It's a mayo/ketchup combo, filled with tangy pickles and seasonings. If you love that "special sauce" on Big Macs, this is pretty similar.  Once you make it, you'll be slathering it on every burger from here on out.

And those onions? You cook them down to almost nothing and they are sweet and just incredible.

Bacon & Bleu Pork Burgers. #ad #iowapork #sweetsavoryeats

I cannot wait for you to try these!

Make sure you grab some strong, sturdy hamburger buns at the grocery story {I used broiche here}, there is a lot of weight to these pork burgers!

Do me a favor - let me know how they turn out!  Pin them on Pinterest and share with your pork loving friends. I pretty much want everyone to see these and give them a chance.

A big thanks to Iowa Pork for sponsoring this post.

Mouthwatering bacon and bleu cheese flavors in this burger! Juicy, filling, creamy and oh, so delicious.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground pork
  • 4 strips of cooked bacon
  • 4 slices Provolone cheese
  • 1 medium white onion, finely diced
  • 1 cup bleu cheese crumbles
  • 1 T sugar
  • 2 T. olive oil
  • 2 t. salt
  • 1 t. pepper
Homemade Russian Dressing
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup chopped dill pickles
  • 1 t. garlic powder
  • 1 t. pepper

Instructions:

  1. To make the dressing: In a bowl mix together the mayo, ketchup, chopped pickles and seasonings.  Cover and keep in the fridge until ready to eat.
  2. Bring the olive oil in a skillet to medium-high heat.  Place in the diced onion and start to saute. Stir occasionally to prevent the onion from sticking.  Add in the sugar and 1 teaspoon of the salt, continuing to saute. You will want the onions to caramelize (turning brown), so continue to stir until the onions are very soft, brown and cooked down.  Remove from the heat, set aside.
  3. In a bowl combine the ground pork, 1/2 of the bleu cheese crumbles, the slightly cooled onions and the salt. Gently mix with your hands until incorporated.  Form the meat into a ball and score into 4 sections.
  4. Form the four sections into four burger patties.  Place on a plate to get ready to grill.
  5. Heat your grill to medium-high heat.  Grill the pork burgers for 7-8 minutes, then flip.  Allow to cook another 3-4 minutes.
  6. Place a slice of provolone onto each burger, followed by a strip of bacon (cut in half, lay cross-wise) and finally the remaining bleu cheese crumbles. Grill for another 3-4 minutes or until the pork reaches an internal temp of 160 and the cheeses are melted.
  7. Remove the pork burgers from the grill, place on a bun and top with a healthy dose of the homemade Russian dressing.  Serve immediately.

Nutter Butter Delight

Calling all peanut butter fans!
This Nutter Butter Delight is simple and a crowd favorite.

Nutter Butter Delight #sweetsavoryeats

Are you a crunchy or smooth peanut butter fan?

I personally adore smooth. It's all my Mom bought growing up, so I'm guessing that is why. Although shove a spoonful of crunchy in my mouth and I most definitely wouldn't spit it out.

This dessert is FULL of all things peanut butter.  Cookies, the filling and the Reese's Pieces sprinkled on the top. It's down right blissful I might add.

Nutter Butter Delight #sweetsavoryeats

A few weeks back I was grocery shopping and came to the chip, candy, cookie aisle {super dangerous, but at the same time it produced this recipe, so you're welcome} and I came upon Nutter Butters.

Now Nutter Butters are not a cookie I grew up eating. At least I don't remember ever eating them. But I will tell you this it is not because I don't like them!  I remember having them at school functions and at friend's houses so let me tell you I was very aware of their greatness.

My mind immediately went to a cold, pudding-filled dessert layered with cookies.

I have no idea why, but this is how my food blogger brain works.

Nutter Butter Delight #sweetsavoryeats

I just KNEW that these cookies layered in a creamy, cold Summery dessert would be fantastic.  Therefore I grabbed two packages, came home and promptly hid them in an upper cabinet out of reach.

The kids and husband noticed them the next day.

My hiding abilities apparently were slacking, but thankfully they shouted about them and I heard it and came running.

Strict orders were given TO NOT EAT THE COOKIES.  Surprisingly they listened.

Nutter Butter Delight #sweetsavoryeats

Finally, much to their amusement I got my butt in gear and made this Nutter Butter Delight {in between pricing garage sale items for next weekend, planning out our short vacay this weekend and the normal laundry, meals, keeping track of kids routine}.

The very hardest part of this dessert is waiting for it to CHILL.

Trust me when I say you can put it together in 10 minutes.  No kidding, just 10 minutes.  But it does need to sit tight in the fridge to get those cookies a bit soft and to let the pudding mingle in around the pan.

It's hard, but worth it.

Nutter Butter Delight #sweetsavoryeats

An absolute perfect dessert to bring to any gathering! People will go bananas for it and will most definitely ask for the recipe link {please send them my way!}.

You could also chop up Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and layer them on the top - that'd be fantastic.  Or any of the extra Nutter Butter's you may have on hand. Even leave plain on top!  All things work. Most importantly, make sure you have enough plates, spoons, forks and napkins on hand.  This stuff is incredible.

And addicting.

Garlic & Thyme Butter Steaks

Juicy, buttery steaks are on the menu!
A simple butter sauce infused with garlic and thyme will delight any man in your life.

This post is sponsored by the Iowa Beef Council.
Read on further for a giveaway!

Garlic & Thyme Butter Steaks #ad #unitedwesteak #iowabeef

Father's Day is just over a week away and wowza do I have the recipe you need to make the man in your life! A simple, great steak is hard to beat {at least according to my husband} so that is exactly what I did this past weekend.

We recently picked up a half of a beef {the Iowa way of saying - literally half of a cow from the meat locker} and let me tell you what....our freezers are FULL.  When the husband started carrying in the boxes and boxes of meat I promptly told him we better call a friend to see if they had extra room for us.

But, after a thrilling game of freezer tetris, it all fit!

Garlic & Thyme Butter Steaks. #ad #unitedwesteak #iowabeef

As a family of five {with three hungry, growing kids} having a freezer full of beef is a godsend. We stocked up on ground beef, roasts and of course, steak!

I'm very honored to be partnering in a long term relationship with the Iowa Beef Council.  I love working with companies that 100% align with our life.

And, well, beef is a big part of our life.

Whether we're scarfing down my Bacon Cheeseburger Pasta or are putting out a platter of my Classic Swedish Meatballs, beef is a big part of our diet.

Garlic & Thyme Butter Steaks. #ad #unitedwesteak #iowabeef

Now that it's basically Summer, our family is grilling a LOT.  The husband loves, loves, loves to put meat on our smoker/grill and frankly I often enjoy whipping up the side dishes so he can take care of the main dish.

But this time - I came up with the main dish!  Steak.  A juicy, buttery, garlic and thyme infused ribeye steak.  It's hard to come up with the words to describe these ribeyes, but I'll try.

Glorious.

Divine.

Heavenly.

Blissful.

Ready to try them for yourself?  Or the man in your life for this Father's Day?

Garlic & Thyme Butter Steaks. #ad #unitedwesteak #iowabeef

Any cut of steak will work in this recipe, I just happen to love ribeyes.  Sirloin and T-bones are a good choice too.

As for cooking steak - don't be intimidated.  You can do this! There are so many factors to consider, but once you figure out how you like it {doneness, grill marks, marinades, etc.} it really is easy peasy.  Here are some great links to read on further.

Garlic & Thyme Butter Steaks #ad #unitedwesteak #iowabeef

Golly look at that sizzle!

Honestly, I could have stared at that butter sauce come together all day, but I had a drooling husband waiting behind me.

After you cook your steaks to your desired perfection you let them take a bath in butter, garlic and thyme {someone should make this a candle scent}.  The steaks soak in all that greatness!  Thyme is an evergreen herb and a cousin to oregano.  It has a woody stem and many describe it as sweet, lemony and a bit peppery.

It's delicious.
Garlic & Thyme Butter Steaks #ad #unitedwesteak #iowabeef

Featuring this recipe this time of year is perfect for a few reasons.  We are on the cusp of Summer and this gorgeous season is meant for grilling and the Iowa Beef Council has joined forces with the United We Steak campaign.

How cool is this graphic?

America's tastes can vary from coast to coast, but this Summer why not unite around steak? So stand behind the grill, hoist up the tongs and join fellow Americans in delicious celebrations.  Beef is what's for dinner and steak is always a great way to celebrate.

Why not unite around great food?  Also, make sure to join the fun on the Iowa Beef Council mailing list.  So many great things HERE.

Garlic & Thyme Butter Steaks #ad #unitedwesteak #iowabeef

These steaks are ideal to grill up for any Dad in your life, but don't stop there - if cooking for a bigger crowd go ahead and double or triple the sauce and drizzle a platter of ribeyes with it.  No one will be disappointed.

I served these steaks with roasted potatoes and a big Caesar salad and life was basically perfect in that moment. This is one of those meals that you'll remember for a long time.

And to think - just three ingredients to a killer sauce?

You know me, I'm not a complicated cook. I want things to be simple, yet delicious - and that my friends, was accomplished.

A rich, buttery sauce infused with garlic and thyme gives these beef steaks incredible flavor! Perfect to grill up for your man to make his day special.

Ingredients:

  • 4 ribeye steaks (sirloin, T-bone, etc work fine too)
  • 1/2 stick unsalted butter
  • 5 cloves garlic, whole and peeled
  • 6-7 sprigs thyme
  • salt
  • pepper

Instructions:

  1. Lay out your steaks and bring them to room temperature.
  2. Pat each steak dry with paper towels and liberally season both sides with salt and pepper.  Set aside.
  3. Start your grill, allowing it to come to medium-high heat.
  4. Grill your steaks just 5 minutes a side for a medium cook (less or more depending on your desired doneness). Remove the steaks from the grill, cover with foil and allow to rest.
  5. With the grill still hot, place a cast iron skillet directly on the rack (or any stainless steel skillet that can handle high heat) and lay in the butter, garlic cloves and sprigs of thyme.  Gently stir until the butter is melted and sizzling.
  6. Taking two steaks at a time, place them into the hot melted butter mixture.  Gently flip the steaks and spoon over the garlic butter thyme sauce, letting the steaks soak it in.  Remove the steaks from the skillet and do this with the remaining two steaks.
  7. Serve the steaks immediately, pouring on any additional leftover sauce.

Notes:

Any cut of steak will do in this recipe - we love a good ribeye, but sirloins and T-bones work great too. We prefer an easy 1-inch thick cut steak as it cooks fairly quick, but again whatever you have on hand will work, just note cooking times may vary. If you do not have a grill a cast iron skillet or stainless steel skillet on your stovetop works well too.

Bacon Cheeseburger Pasta

All the flavors of a juicy bacon cheeseburger in pasta!
This Bacon Cheeseburger Pasta is a family favorite.

Bacon Cheeseburger Pasta #sweetsavoryeats

So I teased about this recipe on Instagram last week and then made a good handful of you mad when  you realized it was not yet on my blog.

I've learned my lesson.

If I know a dish will be extremely popular I should just wait to chat about it on here.  We live in a world of instant gratification!  I mean, in retrospect I should have known.  Bacon Cheeseburger Pasta!  It's not like I was teasing about lima beans.

Bacon Cheeseburger Pasta #sweetsavoryeats

Besides eating our weight in this dish, around here we are starting to get our groove back.  School is out for Summer and it feels glorious.

It was such a weird ending to the year, but kids are resilient!  I honestly felt like we got to know their teachers even better as we were in contant communication about assignments and classroom calls.  I certainly DO NOT want to repeat it, but in the end we all passed {including me}.

On to 5th, 4th and 1st next year!

And now it's SUMMER.  Social distancing restrictions have lifted and my kids are once again loving life running all around with their friends and enjoying the warm weather.  It has done wonders to our moods.  We were cooped in for a few months and it was about three months too many.

Bacon Cheeseburger Pasta #sweetsavoryeats

So, this recipe.

I've been making it for years.  Probably since our first kid was born.  It's always been so simple to throw together on any weeknight and is always meet with a cheer.  Who doesn't love a cheesy pasta dish that tastes like a bacon cheeseburger?

People always say how do you forget to share some of your most beloved family recipes?

Here's the answer.  I have no idea.

Chalk it up to three busy kids, a dog, and a husband.  I guess my brain is FULL.  Every once in awhile I realize "we eat this all the time, yet I've never shared it".  That is when I grab my camera and snap some shots.

Bacon Cheeseburger Pasta #sweetsavoryeats

In under 30 minutes you can be diving fork first into this super cheesy bacon burger pot of goodness. I've always, always used elbow macaroni, but any old pasta shape will do - you may just need to adjust the cooking time.

You can also add chopped tomatoes, onions or pickles.  Spice it up like the real thing!

I will say do not skip out on the seasoning that goes in the milk mixture.  That paprika, garlic, sugar and onion powder combo is the real deal.

It gives it such wonderful flavor.

Bacon Cheeseburger Pasta #sweetsavoryeats

We ate this {again} last night and I served it with a side salad and some fruit.  I mean, what kid or adult wouldn't eat that?

We did have some leftovers so let me inform you that this heats up really, really well the next day.  Simply splash a bit of milk over the pasta before reheating and that creamy, cheese sauce will come back to life after a few stirs.

Heck!  Your kids might think you made it again - it tastes the same!

Bacon Cheeseburger Pasta #sweetsavoryeats

I cannot wait to hear how you like this one!

Especially those finicky kids of yours - mine GOBBLE this up like it's a frosted Christmas cookie. Be sure to print this one off, you'll be making it again and again, week after week.

You're welcome.
