These are soft and slightly spices, plus they jazz up a holiday dessert platter.

I wanted to give you a fun new cookie before my BIG holiday series kicks off on Tuesday! If it is your first time around these parts set an alarm to check back in on December 1st {and for the remaining 11 days after} as this year is my 5th Annual 12 Days of Holiday Giveaways.

It's exactly like it sounds - I give away a TON of stuff! Each day I feature a company and/or product and then turn around and sprinkle all the fun onto you. It's a super popular holiday series that has grown big over the years, so stay tuned.

But before we get to that - it's cookie time!

Eggnog Cookies

Honestly, I don't remember drinking eggnog growing up. I'm not sure why? I'm guessing it just wasn't something my Mom bought during the holidays.

Several years back I became a Brand Ambassador with Kalona SuperNatural in Kalona, Iowa. I use and love their dairy products {so creamy and rich and just fabulous} and low and behold last year they sent me their eggnog.

Well there was no turning back after that!

It's incredibly rich and thick and full of cinnamon and nutmeg flavor. I immediately started putting it in my morning coffee as a creamer {if you haven't tried this, put it on your holiday to do list}.

One morning while drinking my coffee I dreamt up these Eggnog Cookies. I mean, why not put eggnog in the batter?

Seemed like a good idea to me! So I got to work. These are the perfect cookies to make if you have just a small bit of eggnog left in the fridge. Just a half of a cup gives these cookies an underlying creamy, nutmeg flavor. It's not overwhelming - yet it's perfect.

And to pump up the volume a bit, don't forget to add the holiday sprinkles! My 6 year old added them to mine. It got a bit messy, I'm sure I'll be sweeping up sprinkles for months....but she had fun.

These perfect drop cookies are soft and tender and with the small bit of cream of tarter in the dough, it also makes them a bit chewy in the middle.

The eggnog, additional cinnamon and nutmeg really bring out the holiday flavors in this one - they will make people go, "what kind of cookie is this again?". Be prepared to share the recipe, people will ask for it.

These are great fresh out of the oven and stay good for a few days in a covered container, but they also freeze really well too. If you are like me I bake cookies all December long and freeze most along the way. Then when we go somewhere or just want a treat, I pull out a few samples for everyone to share.

Taste the hint of eggnog in these soft holiday cookies! They jazz up any holiday cookie platter.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 1 t baking powder
  • 1/4 t cream of tarter
  • 1/2 t cinnamon
  • 1 t nutmeg
  • 1 1/4 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup salted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup Kalona SuperNatural Eggnog (or any brand)
  • 2 t vanilla extract
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1/2 cup Christmas sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 300 degrees and lightly grease a cookie sheet with cookie spray.
  2. In a stand mixer combine the sugar and butter until smooth. Add in the eggnog, vanilla and egg yolks.
  3. In a separate bowl sift together the dry ingredients - flour, baking powder, cream of tarter, cinnamon, nutmeg.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients until combined.
  5. Refrigerate the dough for 30 minutes.
  6. Using a small cookie scoop, measure the dough out into 12 small balls onto the cookie sheet. Top with a Christmas sprinkles.
  7. Bake for 16 minutes or until slightly firm to the touch. Remove from the oven and transfer to a cookie rack.
  8. Keep the cookies in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
