Spiced Apple Scones

Apple season is such a fun season - too many apple desserts to count!
These Spiced Apple Scones are bakery worthy and will melt in your mouth.

Last week we stopped by a friend's house to let out their dog while they were out of town and my eyes immediately fell upon the LOADED apple tree in their backyard.

After a quick text they said, "yep, take what you want!"

I now have a full grocery sack of delicious apples on my counter and I could not be more excited. The kids are eating them by the handful and I'm off to the side dreaming on prepping some for the freezer this winter.

Over the years I've made a lot of apple desserts. So many of them loved by all of you. Everything from cookies to pie to dessert pizza.

Some of your favorites include:

The very first thought that came to my mind when seeing all these apples were SCONES. Yes, scones! People think they are fancy and hard to make, but they are not. It's simply a matter of cutting cold butter into dry ingredients, mixing in a bit of heavy cream and kneading the dough into a circle - followed by a quick bake in the oven.

If the history of this blog shows anything you've seen the scones I've made; including my Copycat Starbucks Pumpkin Scones and my Blueberry Sour Cream Scones.

So naturally making a spiced apple version needed to happen!

All of the best Fall flavors are in these scones - apples, cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla. Dicing the apples up very fine keep them spread out through the dough getting small pieces in every bite.

And to top it all off, there is a glaze!

I personally think every scone needs a glaze, it's gives them a sweet bite. This one is a simple powdered sugar and almond extract combo (maple extract is great too).

Per usual, these scones lasted a measly 24 hours in our house. The kids gobbled one up after dinner for a sweet treat and then they preceded to eat another with their scrambled eggs for the breakfast the next morning.

This recipe makes 8 scones (and if you don't have 3 hungry kids they'll last awhile). Keep them covered in a closed container or even freeze them for later.

So grab an apple and get baking!
