Freezer Spaghetti Sauce

We've loved this fairly easy way to make freezer spaghetti sauce for years now.
Nothing beats grabbing a bag mid winter for a good, comfort meal.

Garden produce (tomato, green pepper, onion, basil, parsley) all sitting on a wooden counter.

With a ton of fresh produce, there is only one thing to make right?  Some bread-dunkin', pasta slathered, drink yourself silly red sauce.  Or spaghetti sauce.  Or gravy.  Whatever you like to call it.

Problem is until last week, I had never made homemade spaghetti sauce with fresh tomatoes.  I sometimes do my Crockpot Basil Marinara (which is equally good), but decided to try this technique after seeing a friend try something similar.

The main reason?

ABSOLUTE NO CANNING REQUIRED.

Not that I cannot can items, it's just tedious and tiring.

A tray of homemade lasagna before baked in a 9x13 baking dish.

This recipe does call to remove the skins on the tomatoes, but really it is all about your preference. Some don't mind the skins, some do. I've included the directions below of how to easily remove them if that is what you want to do.

You will get 3 quarts of sauce from this - and trust me when I say one quart will go right into a dish that same night.

It's hard to turn down!

But the other two will be waiting for you later in the year and you'll thank yourself for taking the time to make this sauce.

  8. I used to always can my "gravy" until my MIL told me that she just froze it in ziploc bags and laid them flat - since I have a giant deep freeze it works perfect!

And I used to be picky and used to make my husband take off all the peels, now I don't mind it - I just puree it.

    Your lasagna looks amazeballs!
