Candy Kitchen, Market and Upcoming Giveaway!

So yesterday was filled with a great day at the market, visiting the local candy kitchen for lunch and an easy, simple dinner.

Doesn't get much better than that.

My mom, little man and I visited the local candy kitchen for lunch. Now, this place has been in business since the 1860's. Yes, it is known to be the oldest candy/soda fountain shop in the nation. And they are still going strong!



George Nopoulos, one of the owners, was there to serve us a tasty grilled chicken salad sandwich, along with a scoop of his homemade butter brickle ice cream. We all three enjoyed!

Here's little man and I sitting in an old-timed booth. Please take note, it was hot and humid, therefore my hair goes curly...


After lunch, I headed to the farmer's market, and it was a great day! Beautiful weather, nice people, and LOTS of jam sold. All in all, a great day. I even had a request to make sugar-free or Splenda made jam - anyone know how to do this?


After sweating buckets at the market, getting home and putting everything away, we decided on a simple supper of CPK's White Pizza, salad and fruit. My idea of a simple, easy and yummy supper.

  1. i know they make a no sugar/less sugar pectin that you have to use. but that's all i know...can't be of much help as we no longer use it here.

    glad a lot of it sold though!

  2. As Heather said, they do have that pectin and I think it calls for fruit juice instead of sugar...But I'll keep thinking. Congrats on selling a lot!

  9. this looks great. good luck with your farmers market! we have three saturday markets in town and my mom and i are doing baked goods and candy at the smallest of the three (mainly to learn how to do it, we'll think about the other one next year). everything looks great!

  10. I think with Splenda its suppose to be equal to sugar, however to me its sweeter so doesn't require as much as sugar. Look on the bag next time you go to the store, it has the comparisons I believe! Good luck with that! Your white pizza looks so yummy! Oh, another note, I made your peanute butter bars 2 times in 4 days, had to they were eaten all up so quickly!! Such a yummy and so so easy recipe!

    Sure-Jell makes a low sugar fruit pectin that I've used with good results.

    I've actually never tried using baking splenda now that I think of it - when I get home next week I'll give it a try and let you know!

It's an LM pectin. It allows you to sweeten with whatever you'd like. I sweeten naturally with honey ;D Love it! I have a couple of great books I can recommend on canning naturally as well :D Beautiful little man by the way!!! He's getting gorgeous!!
