Crock Pot Apple Butter

The smells of Fall are arriving!
Be sure to try my homemade apple butter when you have a bunch of apples on hand.

I first introduced this homemade crock pot apple butter to my readers over 10 years ago. Yes, I'm that old time food blogger!

At that time I was knee deep in babies and toddlers and quite honestly I'm not sure how I did it all, but I do remember utilizing nap time to my full advantage, so I'm imagining I peeled and sliced apples while the house was quiet.

Peeled apples and skins on a wooden cutting board.

A friend brought me a bag of apples from her apple tree last week - she told me they were pretty tart (more of a baking apple) - so I knew instantly I'd make a batch of my apple butter.

And looking at the old recipe post I knew it needed to be updated, so here we are!

You'll need 10-12 apples for this recipe. Mine were a good size (if smaller, add in a few more, this recipe is forgiving). Put on some music and get peeling!

The instant these apples start to cook your house will smell amazing. Each kid who walked in the door that day mentioned it. It's like having a homemade apple cinnamon candle burning on your countertop.

It really is a set it and forget recipe, one that cooks down all day and requires no work from you.

Look at that beautiful color!

The apples cook down into a rich, dark and flavorful sauce. You can certainly leave the apple butter a bit chunky when it's done (it's all your preference), but I prefer blending it until it's nice and smooth.

Grab your blender, food processor or immersion blender and it takes just a few minutes to blend it up. Ladle the apple butter into jars and it will last in the fridge for up to 3 weeks.

Now, you are probably thinking what do I put apple butter on?

The answer is SO much!

We love it swirled into yogurt, spooned over vanilla ice cream, spread on toast or English muffins, stirred into hot oatmeal....and these are just a few ideas. Tell me yours!

I'd love to see you tag me on socials (@sweetsavoryeats) when you make this, so start peeling!
