If my kids had their way, they’d love to go out to eat for
Chinese food on a weekly basis. It’s one of their favorites! But alas, money
doesn’t grow on trees, nor do we have the time with three busy kids in a
zillion activities, so I decided to tackle their Chinese cravings at home.
In my continuing partnership with AE
Dairy, I’m very excited to share this month’s new recipe. We both realized
upon brainstorming some recipe ideas that I had never featured their tasty
orange juice!
How did we let that happen?
We both wanted to showcase their orange juice in a savory
dish, something you might not expect as a main ingredient. One of the most
popular Chinese dishes on most menus is orange chicken…and probably coming in
second place is sesame chicken.
So naturally I combined both for my new Orange Sesame
Chicken!
This dinner can be eaten over traditional white rice, in lettuce wraps, with stir fry veggies or just right out of the skillet like I was doing last week.
AE
Dairy’s orange juice is 100% juice made with a variety of oranges,
including sweet Valencia oranges that give their juice a premium taste. They do
not add any preservatives or sugar, you get nothing but pure, deliciously
vibrant orange flavor.
I can attest it’s beyond good (I have one child who is PICKY
about their orange juice), so trust me when I say she knocks back glasses of
this stuff.
And now I’m showing you another way to use it today, besides
just a breakfast drink.
Boneless, skinless chicken breasts are cubed, seasoned with
fresh orange zest, soy sauce, egg white, salt and pepper and tossed lightly in
cornstarch before a quick pan fry until cooked through and crispy.
Meanwhile, you get to whisk up a fun pan sauce of AE Dairy orange juice,
soy sauce, honey, garlic, ginger, chicken broth and rice vinegar. That gets
poured into the pan until it’s all thick and syrupy.
And to make this sesame – right before serving you sauté
sesame seeds lightly in a pan until brown and toasty – sprinkling them on top
before eating.
It’s both ORANGE and SESAME!
This recipe makes a nice, big batch (perfect for my always
hungry family) and reheats beautifully as leftovers.
And you can feel good about eating it – fresh flavors and
healthy ingredients make it a filling and guilt free dinner.
PLUS, there will be orange juice left over to guzzle
down in the morning!
